News: Road Upgrade Works In Kota Kemuning To Begin Next Month After A Nine-Month Delay

Sep 14, 2018

After a nine-month delay, road upgrading works for the first roundabout in Persiaran Anggerik Mokara in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam will finally commence this October.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) began the first phase of construction works for the traffic dispersal plan at Kota Kemuning’s roundabout last October, with completion set in September this year.

Works at the roundabout, however, hit a snag after it was found out that underground cables from various utility firms had to be relocated first, reported The Star.

Two months ago, the utility firms started removing the cables, while the contractors engaged to conduct road-widening works wait to begin their task, said Hanif Basree Abdul Rahman, Deputy Director of MBSA Engineering Department.

“It is a running cost for us as well as we are paying them for the job…We prefer to begin as soon as possible but were delayed due to the issue,” he added.

In fact, the council will also pay the relocation cost for the Syabas pipes there.

Costing RM5 million, package one of Phase 1 will see the roads expanded to three lanes from two, and the upgrading of slip roads at the roundabout.

Under package two, which cost RM15 million, an access road from Persiaran Anggerik Mokara going to Kesas Highway will be built to ease traffic congestion at the Kota Kemuning area to Kesas as well as the LKSA (Kemuning–Shah Alam Highway).

Overall, the first phase of the project will cost RM20 million.

The traffic dispersal plan for Kota Kemuning township, which has endured bad congestion at the roundabout during peak hours, has been delayed for a number of times.

In fact, the much-awaited flyover at the main Persiaran Anggerik Mokara that was promised to the residents as part of the sales pitch of the development was not included in the draft plan.

For years, residents have been fighting for the construction of the flyover, especially after the traffic congestion within the Persiaran Anggerik Mokara area had significantly increased during peak hours.
